In terms of formulating global carbon footprint standards and regulations, the actual data based on the industrial chain is the basis for formulating standards. China and Asia should be more proactive in this regard. This is considering that China, Japan and South Korea are the largest battery industry clusters in the world, especially China. However, it is worth noting that due to the absence of the formulation of carbon footprint standards, many key data have not been updated in time, resulting in similar power battery products produced by China, Japan and South Korea, the carbon footprint is obviously high, which is inconsistent with the actual situation. Zeng Yuqun believes that in order to promote the development of green batteries, in addition to the efforts of enterprises themselves, the government also needs to introduce guidance and encouragement policies, so that consumers and car companies can get tangible benefits when using green batteries. For example, in double credits or purchase tax exemption, the battery carbon footprint conditions should be set. Only electric vehicles with low carbon footprint batteries can get credits, or can enjoy policies such as purchase tax exemption; or it is recommended to study the power battery carbon credit policy to encourage Green and low-carbon battery development. In addition, the battery recycling policy should be further improved to provide policy guarantees for battery companies to use recycled materials to produce new batteries on a large scale. In order to better promote the carbon reduction process of power batteries, CATL has also proposed a zero-carbon battery solution, involving all aspects of mineral sand, bulk raw materials, battery raw materials, batteries, and systems. Zeng Yuqun mentioned that in the carbon reduction measures, the large-scale use of recycled materials is an important means to realize the low carbonization of batteries. CATL has improved its standards through process technology upgrades, separation and purification system iterations, and equipment automation. The recovery rate of nickel, cobalt and manganese in scrap batteries can reach 99.3%, and the lithium recovery rate can reach 90%.
